Unfortunately, millions of people don’t get enough vitamin D. Whether they live up north where there’s not enough sun or they’re in an area that receives plentiful food sources of vitamin D, there are too many people who suffer from a deficiency. Some signs of vitamin D deficiency are:

  •  Fatigue
  • Back pain
  • Depression
  • Hair loss
  • Muscle pain

Believe it or not, vitamin D deficiency is more common than many people think it is. It isn’t about just stepping out into the sun for a couple of seconds and getting a healthy amount of vitamin D. Those who don’t have convenient access to vitamin D will need to take supplements or consume vitamin D-rich foods. Some of these foods include:

  • Egg yolk
  • Fatty fish
  • Dairy products

Some benefits of taking vitamin D supplements or consuming foods with vitamin D include:

  • Increase in mood
  • Strong bone health
  • Reducing the risk of heart disease

Taking vitamin D has shown to improve symptoms of depression. It is most likely why those who don’t live in sunny areas seem to have the lowest moods. You’re also putting yourself at risk of bone and joint issues such as osteoarthritis. Finally, those who suffer from a deficiency in vitamin D have shown to have higher blood pressure. When you suffer from high blood pressure, you’re putting yourself at risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Keep in mind that your body can make vitamin D without supplementation or food, but you need to get a sufficient amount of sunlight. That’s difficult to do in some areas or for those who work at home or inside of an office all day. If you’re starting to notice signs of vitamin D deficiency, try some of the tips listed above to see if they help alleviate symptoms.
