DOTA 2 is developed and published by Valve, an American video game developer. It is the sequel to Defense of the Ancients, which was originally a community-created mod for Warcraft III, made by Blizzard Entertainment. The game is played by two teams of five, with each player selecting a hero with specific abilities and styles of play. The objective of the game is to destroy the opposing team’s structure, called the Ancient.
It is known for its steep learning curve and massive player base. With so many players and people watching DOTA streamers, it’s easy to guess the game has a massive esports scene with teams from all over the globe playing professionally in leagues and tournaments. It is bringing us to The International, the games’ main annual tournament. As the prize pools for the Internationals are crowdfunded, it is the most lucrative esports game with pools of over 30 million dollars.
Because of COVID 19 pandemic, The International 2020 has sadly been delayed, probably into the next year, and the official final prize pool has yet to be released but will be soon.Â
The teams are also to be decided due to the delay of the pro circuit (elimination rounds to qualify for the International.) In an official statement on the DOTA 2 blog, the development team says, “We hope everyone in the Dota community is staying as safe as possible and look forward to a time when we can once again welcome everyone to enjoy the spectacle of The International.” With 18 teams to be decided and a USD 30,313,687 prize pool so far, the International 10 will be something to behold for DOTA fans and avid gamers alike.
